I passed my 1st Dan (Black Belt) in 2004, having had the privilege to train with Master Tina Atkin Name:Tina Atkin
Previous Instructors:Dr. Peter Smielewski, Master Mark Iles
Present Instructor:Sabon David Carmichael
Personal Ambitions:Perfect my TKD techniques to reach Master status.
Favourite Techniques:Jump reverse turning kick; Palm heel strike (as a breaking technique)
I can honestly say that when I first tried Tae Kwon Do, I loved it straight away. I found that you could learn a lot of techniques quickly, and combine them without waiting. You can also progress steadily, if you put the time and effort in.
I've always had an interest in martial arts, but having tried a few, I've only stuck with Taekwondo (I got bored with Karate and didn't like Judo, as all you did was fighting). You get a real buzz after a hard training session; it's a great stress reliever!
Mark Iles in Gosport. It took hard work to get to this level in a relatively short amount of time (3 ½ years).
I appreciate the responsibility that goes with being a black belt, so I'm happy to help out in class.
When I moved into the area, it was a relief to find such a welcoming club as Tan'Gun. Sabon David's instruction is first rate, and having separate sessions concentrating on techniques and sparring is very good. The club has a great atmosphere and classes are really enjoyable. I'd encourage anyone with an interest to come along and try Taekwondo with Tan'Gun
